Google Maps for Web on Android and iOS

Google Maps is probably one of the most used mobile apps on iOS and Android devices. It provides fast access to a variety of location-based-services, and, in the case of the Android version, provides real-time voice-guided navigation (and for free). Today Google unveiled the browser version of Google Maps, which works with Android and iOS devices. The browser version lacks many of the features that can be found in the apps (like multi-touch), but it provides an effective way to browse a map while in the browser without having to use the app. Also, let us know forget that not all Android users have Google Maps installed, so the web version will be a welcomed addition. @zebraboek , you would need internet connection , because AGPS works with your cellular provider , and as far as GPS is concerned , to send your location you would need internet connection to see that on your Android. Also google maps can not be loaded without internet connection , so you would sure need internet connection.

    compare this to Windows phone that uses Bing maps. It shows the street view as a photo from an airplane … you can zoom to about 50-100ft above a building. It’s very nice.

    @zebraboek
    The internet is only to load specific parts of an entire map, so if you will drive outside that already charged “minimap” , you must have internet to redraw the other parts of the map.

    After Nokia’s 3d maps, that doesn’t look very futuristic to me.

    Google maps is not that bad on the browser. i think simplicity is better for the browser but i would most likely use the application instead.

    @electronizersrbija Well, it needs Internet the first time. After that, it doesn’t. But, be sure to “cache” your map by visiting it when you have Internet connection. ;)

    Nokia OVI map is really still the BEST. The “problem” with Google maps is that you still need to go online. For OVI, you can download worldmaps into your phone for FREE, then you can travel anywhere OFFLINE as long as your phone has GPS.

    @zebraboek If you have an Android phone, no, you don’t, because it caches your maps on the SD card. But, if you have iOS, or you want to use the Google Maps for Web, you must have Internet connection.
