Horizon 2D-3D Map

This TAT concept seamlessly combines maps in 2D and 3D. While 2D maps are great for getting a simple overview of a place, 3D maps show you what a place actually looks like. TAT Cascades makes it possible to create maps that combine both approaches, shifting dynamically between 2D and 3D. The 3D map meshes are licensed from C3 Technologies.

It’s sad that the carriers have to go and mess with this awesome code. The maps are the coolest thing i’ve seen. The mirror thing is something I wish you guys would just get someone to build. It would be one killer way to wake up the the morning. I’m not a big fan of the computer screen though.

@Bacon676 Dude, TAT has worked with a ton of OEMs, they just can’t talk about it. You more than likely use a device they’ve worked on. Also, how is this in an way like Sense UI? They showed this very same concept live on The Engadget Show. Instead of being upset, look into it! :D

Lol more tat eye candy software that we will never be able to use. You guys make all this crap but never release it for people to use. Majority of the people who see your products know by now that none of them will be released. So why bother showing it off.

Go release something you shown off.

@Bacon676 This video shows a real-time rendered demo of things that are possible with TAT Cascades today. Check out the latest Engadget Show for more info!

@traxens Thanks! It’s “Molecule” by Moleman. You can find it on SoundCloud

@Strand0410 Thanks! The maps are from C3 Technologies and they are rendered in real-time in the demo. C3 has 3D meshes for the entire city of Malmö, however all are not included in this demo

@Bacon676 I don’t know if you are aware of this, but TAT actually had a big hand in making the Android interface that is used now.

@Bacon676 TAT designs UIs for phones and has worked with Samsung, Motorola, SE etc. Apparently 470 million devices have been sold which they’ve actually worked on. So while none of it is as mind-blowing as this, it does make stuff.

A 200 employee studio doesn’t stay afloat just from releasing pre-rendered clips like this on youtube you know.

This is just aggravating… why doesn’t TAT actually MAKE anything? They have 0 phones running any of their software, and the Android beta was non-existent. All of their videos so far are just digital editing in of what they could possibly do one day with their supposed Cascade system. It looks nifty, sure, but how useful is something if it’s never going to actually be there to use?

I realize that TAT is trying to be like HTC with sense, but at least make a video showing your stuff off live!

this is just an enlongment of the ferature in route 66 3d-maps. They show up depending of the angle that your mobile is in. Nothing new really. Just taken a bit further.

This is very cool, just checked it out on the Engadget Show. This sort of thing will be immensely useful as I’ve personally been confused by 2D maps that have very little real-world bearing on my position.

I also notice the footage on-screen as being the same as on the Engadget Show. Is this pre-rendered? What kind of bandwidth would be required to render something like this? Or must it be cached? Where are the 3D models etc coming from, Google Maps?
