The AT&T Helmet Man (Day One)

I made a special helmet today to poke some fun at AT&T. Ryan wore it around Nashville this evening and here are the results. I’m actually a satisfied AT&T customer myself, but when I thought of this idea it was too funny to pass up! The map was made with a sheet of Plexiglas hand-painted with the map from Verizon which I printed out in full size and traced before painting. Ryan was wearing a wireless mic under his jacket (to avoid notice) which accounts for the audio scratching. At the mall, I put the camera into a bag and carried it nearby. We couldn’t have the camera too close to the action in the mall because of the wireless receiver which made the camera look just a bit too “pro” to be recording in public places. but AT&T just jumped into the realm of cellular phones not very long ago, then because they sucked they got bought out by Cingular and then Cingular, because of the name, decided to take on AT&T’s name.

but also verizon has faster consistent data speeds that AT&t.

but right now tmobile has the fastest 3g network with support up to 7.2mbps and plans to completing their HSPA+ network by mid 2010 hitting speeds up to 21mbps.

Okay, maybe I should’ve been more specific. Verizon’s “3G” only operates at a max of 3.1 mbps on their Rev-A network, while Rev-O is only 2.4.

Meanwhile, AT&T’s true 3G HSUPA network runs at about 5.76mbps. I should’ve thought before I posted that EDGE is the same speed, but they are the same coverage area. Verizon’s ads make it seem like AT&T has no service ANYWHERE, and that’s just wrong.

AT&T is also in the works of expanding their 3G coverage and boosting speeds to almost 12mbps.

Depends on the phones… The Touch Pro2 in my pocket works on Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mo, etc in the US so I’m sure it will work fine overseas.

I kinda wish someone would make it known that AT&Ts EDGE and Verizon’s “3G” are actually the same speeds :P Verizon’s “3G is all over because it’s just their regular coverage area, not because it’s anything faster or special.
